How do I know if the Kindergarten Readiness Program is right for my child?
If your child is at least 4 years old, needs an extra year to prepare for school, needs activities that will challenge or enrich his/her existing skills, etc. then yes, this program is right for you!
How is Lakeside different from other PreK Programs?
Lakeside offers individualized instruction in a group setting. It is an enhanced PreK program.
How is tuition calculated?
The current PreK Day Camp is $25 for three hours per day. Tutoring is $30 an hour. If your child attends 4 days a week at 4 hours a day, that is a very good deal for individualized/small group academic instruction.
How do I know if my child needs a tutor?
If your child is losing interest in school, struggles to focus on reading and homework or is receiving low test scores, then your child may need a tutor.
How will you know what my child's academic needs are?
Initially, I will informally assess the child by asking questions about the school day and study habits. I will ask for the parents' input as well as suggestions from the teacher. Depending on the need, I will use an academic checklist or sample problems to determine the appropriate course for tutoring.
How often will my child need to be tutored?
There are many factors that contribute to the amount of time needed, which include the family schedule, subject in which the child needs assistance, the progress made, as well as the self esteem and comfort level gained by the child.
What if my child needs help with a certain class assignment or project?
I am available for one time tutoring sessions to complete an assignment or to help study for an upcoming test. I can also assist your child with technology research and reports for school projects.
What if my child is on grade level, but I would like them tutored for advancement?
Some parents feel that their child could benefit from extra practice with a particular subject or area, even if the child is not falling behind. I can tutor children for advancement with reading, writing, math or other core subjects.
Can you work with my child on fine motor skills, such as handwriting or using scissors (for younger children)?
Yes, there are techniques used to teach and enhance these skills.
Can my child attend the Mother's Morning Out program as needed?
Yes, you do not have to commit to coming every week, unless you want to reserve a space for your child(ren). Otherwise, just call and see if there is space available for the day(s) you need.
How many spaces do you have available for the Mother's Morning Out program?
It depends on the ages of the children that sign up. I will typically have four spaces available for each session.
I have a child with special needs who has a day time caregiver. Can he/she bring my child for services?
Absolutely. I want to support the children and families as much as possible. Depending on the age of the child, he/she could come during the day or afternoons.
What kinds of things will you work on with my child with special needs?
I want to offer an extra resource for children and their families. Depending on the child's needs, we can do any of the following: read stories, do art projects, music activities, work on fine or gross motor goals, assist with speech or communicative devices, etc.
